Grading Scale Policy Update
August 22, 2022
The Tennessee General Assembly, during the 112th Session, passed legislation that amended T.C.A. 49-6-407, which outlines the grading scale that must be used for high school students.
Rather than operating under two grading scales, Hickman County Schools has adopted the uniform grading scale outlined in legislation and TN State Board of Education policy for students currently enrolled in our school system.
The grading scale for students enrolled in the school system in Hickman County will change for the 2022-2023 school year to reflect a ten (10) point scale. High school students that compete for college admission and scholarship opportunities will benefit from this change and will compete on a more level field since Tennessee’s neighboring states already utilize a ten (10) point grading scale.
The following represents the new grading scale:
1) The “A” letter grade is represented by the numerical range of 90-100;
2) The “B” letter grade is represented by the numerical range of 80-89;
3) The “C” letter grade is represented by the numerical range of 70-79;
4) The “D” letter grade is represented by the numerical range of 60-69; and
5) The “F” letter grade is represented by the numerical range of 50-59.
